“Hi, I do fitting out, carpentry and joinery in Gauteng.”
Carpentry and joinery is a commonly used skill on building projects.
It’s a core discipline within my range of handy skills.
Without a doubt, working neatly with wood to produce custom-fitted units or features is a familiar scenario onsite.
This is why it’s rare that I don’t have a project that calls for me to exercise these twinned disciplines.
Joinery for workshop prepping…doors, timber window frames, custom staircases etc.
Carpentry for on-site assembly, erection and installation…roof trusses, stud work and flooring and more.
Whilst I don’t specialise in only wood working, as you can see, the professional tasks of buildings alterations demand an excellent use of it.
As I tackle the technical obstacles of interior renovation and maintenance work, I simply cannot (nor would I want to) avoid carpentry.
It’s critical to so many aspects, here’s a few examples:
- installing cupboards,
- putting in wooden flooring,
- fitting kitchen units,
- new ceilings,
- skirting board replacement
- hanging doors
In my experience, these are the most common calls for finessing wood on-site for me and my team.
Fitting out is another common carpentry call out.
Commercial spaces of all kinds from small retail shops and cafes to large offices, and restaurant have me needing to fit out.
To give you an idea of what that might involve, just think:
- putting together counters,
- installing cupboards,
- fitting shelving units for merchandise displays
…and you’re not far from what most clients ask for.
But to sum it up in short: shop fittings, fixtures and equipment – and whatever else a brick and mortar trade premises might need to operate.
At times, I might have a private landlord or commercial client want:
- a rotten floor replacing
- loft access for a ladder
- a Velux putting in
- a skylight
So, my reach for carpentry is never far away.
Kitchen and bathroom
By far, the most popular call out question related to carpentry call outs is:
“Are you able to put a new kitchen or bathroom in for me?”
To which I answer, “…yes, I can either have a custom unit built and installed, or I can put in a pre-made one of your choice.”
But fitting unit, counters, cupboards etc. is a standard task.
