“I deliver professional plastering services in Gauteng.”
A mainstay of my work in Gauteng province is plastering services.
Build or restoration, I have a solid, disciplined approach and wide application of skill throughout this trade.
Variety of plastering projects that have come my way, each with their unique challenges…
…plus hours on the clock have allowed for a broad expertise within plastering.
Example plastering projects performed
The following are just a few examples of the kind of plastering project I perform:
Lath and plaster
If you have an older residential property – built within the earlier parts of the 1900’s (or even predating this) then you would certainly have lath and plaster walls.
In other words,
Your walls would not be made of drywall or plasterboard,
But rather those thin strips of timber anchored by nail into structure joists.
This series of slim wooden bars laid side by side were then simply solidified by plaster added on top and between.
Nowadays, the use of lath and plaster has been replaced by drywall.
This makes repairing lath and plasters a bit of a niche skill, as the modern stuff is a different approach altogether.
The costliness and labour intensity of lath was what really finished it off.
It simply cost less to manufacture artificial boards to any size than to make individual strips of lath and install them one by one.
If you have need of a lath and plaster repair – you might be stuck on keeping it, rather than replacing.
And many would agree with you.
Lath and plaster is know for offering far better sound proofing than modern material, for example.
Also, the maintain the historical integrity of the property,
You simply cannot compromise on keeping the original features.
So, carefully replacing the strips – installing new ones – and replastering the surface is your only choice.
And with care and patience my team and I are ready to deliver quality results that endure.
Foundational shift in particular is your usual suspect here.
Especially with our expansive soils in this region of the worlds, plus our regular seasonal deluge of rain…
…extreme, sudden soil moisture followed by drought…
…the combination of factors is known to produce immense physical pressure in the core foundations.
This pressure results in cracking.
And sure enough the cracking will run from below ground and show clearly above ground.
Such displacement and shift causes:
- heaving and cracking of paving slabs
- cracked walls
- jammed windows and doors through misalignment
- ruptured pipework
Repairing cracked wall surfacing is one remedy.
And that will involve tearing open the cracks and stripping back all old plaster down to the brickwork.
Then, cleaning out all the debris, wetting up and laying on new plaster to finish.
But the type of binder used and the thickness to hold sufficiently are all areas that your pay for in expertise, but are worth it in the long run.
Beside mending the walls, the advantage booking me for you job on cracked walls is my general building expertise.
Tell tale issues such as…
…downpipes discharging into the soil at the base of external walls give away the sources of soil displacement problems before my eyes.
And I can and will react swiftly to knock out such threats to your building to avoid further damage.
Solid plaster and board
Finally, solid plaster and board job are common call-out for me in Gauteng.
And by no means is plasterboard mundane – contrary to appearance.
The advantages are manifold.
- Damp proofing
- Fire protection
…all these specialist features give plasterboard its own unique value proposition for your project.
It warrants having its own attention.
